Dear Doron Yoga & Zen Center Friend,
Thanks for your interest becoming Doron Yoga & Zen Center (DYZC) volunteer! We are excited about the possibility of working together. Before we finalize any arrangements, there are a few points that we would like to ensure you are in agreement with first.
Here at the DYZC, we follow the Zen tradition/practice. This means that we work mindfully, with awareness and. Chatter/talk are minimal during working hours. Volunteers are considered Karma yogis, which means that in addition to your dedicated volunteer work, you are mindful and respectful of the center, the land, and the people around you, taking the initiative to keep the DYZC clean and to help out in the kitchen and others.
Meals at the DYZC are nutrient-rich and balanced. Our diet is vegetarian. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions and/or allergies. If you have any specific dietary needs that may not be available, please plan and/or bring accordingly. Food options are limited in Tzununa; some health food items are available in neighboring towns at a significant mark-up. Smoothies, kombucha and some desserts are available for purchase. Meals are only served on the days worked; no cooking facilities are available for volunteer use outside of set meal times. We appreciate that volunteers help prepare and clean up after meals.
Illegal substances are not permitted, and we seek to have clear minds. The center fosters a dedicated, hardworking, and fun environment.
Accommodation is in Casa Feliz, a natural wooden log house with comfy beds (no bunk beds) and some lake views from our elevated deck. This mixed-gender shared room sleeps 6 people with shared bathrooms.
In order to offer a holistic, transformational yoga and Zen experience, volunteers pay $60 per week (amount subject to change). Included within this fee are meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) sessions, as well as yoga asana (physical practice) classes Mondays through Saturdays at the DYZC. You can nourish your body with the fresh, nutritious, vegetarian meals the DYZC prepares on days worked, including Saturdays. If you choose not to work Saturdays, you may still join for meditation, pranayama, breakfast, and yoga. Sundays are free days; no meals, meditation, pranayama, nor yoga are provided. When offered, fire nights, dharma talks and as scheduled Zen dance, are also included within this rate. Volunteers are expected to practice meditation and pranayama as a part of the community Monday through Friday. Please take this into consideration when you decide whether to work with us.
We encourage longer-term volunteers to stay for a yoga teacher training. Doron will help you prepare for it during your volunteer period. This has proven to help students go through the training with much more confidence and ease.
If this still sounds like a good environmental fit for you, we ask that you sign the disclaimer and liability form below. Upon submission, we will send you a welcome pack with more info on how to arrive here and logistics.
Love and gratitude,
Doron and the DYZC team
