Work-Study Program

Dear Doron Yoga Center Friend,

Thanks for your interest in a work-study program at Doron Yoga Center (DYC). We are excited about the possibility of working together. Before we finalize any arrangements, there are a few points that we would like to ensure you are in agreement with first.

Here at the DYC, we follow the Zen tradition/practice. Which means;

  • Work mindfully and with awareness
  • You are mindful and respectful of the center, the land and the people around you
  • Chatter/talk are minimal during working hours
  • Taking the initiative to keep the DYZC clean and well cared for

What you get

  • 3 healthy meals on working days
  • You get a bed in a shared room with shared bathroom. If available we will offer a private room with shared bathroom. Accommodations are under the yoga hall, so you are close to open the yoga hall (shala), have a great space in front of you with chairs, hammocks and views. Be mindful of guests using space as well, and keeping the area quiet.
  • Wifi available on-site
  • 6 days per week yoga, meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) sessions. Many of these sessions are for 90 – 110min or even longer during teacher training.
  • Fire nights, dharma talks and Zen dance  when available
  • Temazcal ceremony when space allows (most of the time)
  • Cacao ceremony when available
  • We encourage longer-term work-study participants to stay for a yoga teacher training. Teachers will help you prepare for it during your work-study period. This has proven to help students go through the training with much more confidence and ease.

Food & Kitchen

  • Meals at the DYZC are vegetarian, nutrient-rich and balanced*
  • Smoothies, kombucha, coffee and some desserts are available for purchase
  • No cooking facilities are available
  • Food options are limited in Tzunana; some health food items are available in neighboring towns, consider what you need before arrival.
  • We require that work-study participants help prepare the Buddha Cafe before and after all meals
  • Alcohol is available for purchase but be mindful with consuming it. Illegal substances are not permitted

*Please let us know of any dietary restrictions and/or allergies. If you have any specific dietary needs that may not be available, please plan and/or bring accordingly.

Working Agreements

  • The agreement entails working 5 hours per day, 6 days a week with 1 day off. However, if the workload permits and the circumstances allow a change the arrangement may be changed to 6 hours per day, 5 days a week, then 2 days off will be granted. Your commitment to working with intention of service and giving your best is acknowledged and appreciated.
  • Participants pay a contribution of $15 per day at sign up. This is non refundable.
  • Minimum one month commitment. If participant proves to be a great fit for longer stay, we will add work hours and lower or remove fee. This is to be discussed after your third week.
  • $400 off of the Teacher Training program if you sign up after you complete a minimum of a month length Work & Study program

If this still sounds like a good environmental fit for you, we ask that you sign the disclaimer and liability form below. Upon submission, we will send you a welcome pack with more info on how to arrive here and logistics.

Liability Waivers

Personal Accountability*
Any program may raise personal issues or challenges: welcome this and allow it as part of the process of personal growth and awareness. For these reasons, the experience may be challenging and demanding, and in participating I accept responsibility for my behavior during my stay. I agree to participate in the spirit of a yoga and Zen community and with respect for DYZC, and will be mindful and caring towards the other guests, staff and location. If at any time, in the sole opinion of DYZC management, I put myself or others at risk, I may be asked to leave. If I am asked to leave for any reason, I will receive no refund of tuition, room, board or other fees.
Health Waiver*
I am in good general health and feel physically capable and ready to engage in physical activity. I recognize the potential risk in any physical exercise or work and take full responsibility for determining my own level of participation based on my body’s responses. I knowingly, voluntarily and expressly waive any and all claims I may have against Doron Hanoch or those working with him, for injury, damages or any loss that I may sustain at the Doron Yoga & Zen Center (DYZC), no matter the reason. The information shared by DYZC is not intended as a diagnostic, or as a replacement for any work with a healthcare professional.
Travel Waiver*
I am responsible for my own travel to and from the venue. If travel to the venue is prevented for any reason outside of the control of DYZC, including but not limited to weather, governmental action, and airline cancellation, there will be no refund of tuition, room, board or other fees. I may, after consideration of the circumstances by DYZC, receive credit toward a future event. I agree I will not order a “chargeback” of any credit card payment made for tuition, room, board, or other fees toward the event.
Loss/Damages and Medical Waiver*
DYZC cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of personal possessions or valuables of the customer; nor can it accept responsibility for any medical conditions and/or circumstances that may arise during the course I am applying for and my stay at the Center. I will organize and have my own adequate medical and travel insurance before I arrive at Doron Yoga & Zen Center. I understand the location of DYZC makes emergency medical access very difficult. In the event of loss or damage of personal possessions or valuable, there will be no refund of tuition, room, board, or any other fees. I agree I will not order a “chargeback” of any credit card payment made for tuition, room, board, or other fees toward the event.
Photography, Video, and Work Waiver*
My image and likeness may be used in photography and video marketing, and other legal purposes, as determined by DYZC. I understand and agree that photographs or videos shared with me by DYZC, are solely for the use of the Doron Yoga & Zen Center and cannot be shared or used in any other way without the express written consent of Doron Hanoch. All work created while on staff for Doron, the DYZC, or any of Doron’s affiliates belongs to DYZC and I release all claims of ownership.

Work-Study Deposit

Program Deposit*
The DYZC reserves the right to turn down applicants at our discretion. The Work-Study Program is designed for a minimum of four weeks total. If accepted, I agree to pay $450 USD up-front as a non-refundable deposit to hold my position. This deposit is a one-time charge, and represents my commitment to arrive at DYZC and contribute as agreed. Subsequent months in the work-study program will not be charged.
