Sirsasana Core Workout Video – Learn and practice
How to Do the Sirsasana Core Workout
Learn and practice the sirsasana – headstand core workout. You will need a steady headstand before attempting this, but once you have a strong headstand, this is a great practice for stability and strength. If you are new to headstands, please have a look at this tutorial.
Sirsasana
Sirsasana, the headstand, is a good pose for cultivating balance and steadiness. Practice this for a while, until it can become a form of meditation. Only then begin to practice lowering the legs down.
Ardha sirsasana
Ardha sirsasana, half headstand, or better description is, headstand with legs lowered halfway down. You can begin practicing lowering the legs just an inch down from sirsasana and then back up. You will need to move the hips in the opposite direction of the legs to balance your weight. Then bring them back up, as you bring the hips back to center as well. Keep practicing this, each time trying to go just a bit lower, until eventually you will be able to go down to the floor with straight legs and then back up.
In the core work, we go almost to the floor and lift back up. After eight of these sirsasana core work, (you can do more or less), we do two down and across. Balance it with a little backbend in headstand, and make sure to take some balasana (child’s pose) when you are done!

[…] Add some playtime to your practice! Learn how to master the transition from tripod headstand (sirsasana B) into arm balances. This is a must if you are preparing for the Ashtanga third series. Please don’t try this if you don’t feel comfortable and stable with your tripod headstand. Practice arm balances and headstand first separately and only after mastering each, start putting them together. If you are new to headstand, please have a look for Doron’s headstand tutorial.
