Open Your Hips with Double Pigeon Pose
Double Pigeon Pose
Today we’re working on Double Pigeon Pose. Sometimes it’s also called Fire Log Pose, or Ankle-to-Knee pose. In Sanskrit, this pose is called Agnistambhasana.
Open Your Hips with Double Pigeon Pose – Fire Log Pose
Start in a sitting position, and place the left shin in front of you, parallel to the long edge of the mat. Flex the left foot to protect the knee. Next, bring the right ankle to the top of the left knee, stacking your right shin on top of the left.
Eventually, the right knee will come down to rest on top of the left foot. For many of us, the hips are too tight to allow this. For some of us, the hips are too tight to even sit comfortably with the right foot on top of the left knee. If this is the case, take this variation: Bend the left leg with the knee upwards in front of you. Then bring the right ankle to the left knee.
Over time, your hips will open up and you’ll be able to do the full pose. If the full pose is comfortable, feel free to take a forward fold to increase the stretch in your hips.
This is a very efficient hip opener yoga pose. Practice this often, and let us know in the comments – What is your favorite hip opener?
