How to Do Kapalbhati – Breath of Fire
How to Do Kapalbhati – Breath of Fire
In this video Doron demonstretes How to do Kapalbhati pranayama. Kapalabhati, or breath of fire (literally translates as skull shining), is a powerful pranayama that helps heat the body. It moves and massages the digestive system and moves the energy in the body. Active exhale helps to wake up your sleeping kundalini – The coiled energy, that is stored above the pelvic floor. As it is a practice that heats and warm ups the body, it can be practiced when it’s cold or in the morning before your asana practice.
Keep in mind
-
- Exhale is active, inhale is passive and happens automatically
- Keep one hand on your belly to feel the pumping movement from the abdamon
- Take 5-100 breaths in one round, as many as feels good for you
- In the end take an inhale, tuck your chin to chest and hold as long it feels comfortable
- Release and exhale before next round
You can do 1-4 rounds, but only do as much as feels comfortable without any stress or anxiety coming up.
Keep in mind, that this practice is not for pregnant women or people with high blood pressure. Avoid this technique also if you have had recent surgeries in the belly area. If you feel anxiety or any discomfort, stop immediately and take a few deep breaths.
