Yoga for Head and Neck Release
Part of the reason so many people have neck problems today is because of daily stress in the modern world. Things such as working on computers all day, or sitting in our cars with no movement for several hours a day. So the most important part beyond the class shown above is to have the right alignment throughout the day.
So let’s say you’re sitting in your chair, at the computer. Most of us tend to have our heads tilted forward and our backs hunched. This means there’s a lot of tension on the muscles in the back and neck to hold our heads in that position.
If our backs are upright and our neck is in a neutral position (not bent forward), we get the correct curvature in our necks and the muscles do not need to strain to hold up the head. It is recommended to sit on the ground or a cushion or block, working on opening my hips. Keep your head and neck upright and straight. Angle your screen such that you don’t have to bend your head forward.
Simply being conscious of how you sit when you are on your computer each day will be a tremendous help in releasing tension in the neck and head. Also remember to walk upright, and simply pay attention to your posture. Be aware of your head position throughout all the activities you perform during your day.
