Location

This center which is like a yoga ashram, is located by Lake Atitlan in Guatemala – one of the most  spectacular lakes in the world. It is rated one of the 5 most beautiful lakes, alongside other great lakes such as Lake Tahoe in California. Located in Solola Department, the village of Tzununa is a 5 minute boat ride or 15 minute tuk-tuk ride from San Marcos la Laguna, which is widely known as Central America’s spiritual center. Over the coming years, Tzununa is anticipated to become the next San Marcos and already has many alternative living communities including the famous Atitlan Organics. Within the village, the Doron Yoga & Zen Center is a 10 minute walk from the lakeside and public dock and about 20 minutes before the Mahadevi yoga Ashram.

Your Zendo Yoga Shala

Every day here at beautiful Lake Atitlan a little more fruit of all of the hard labor grows as the DYZC comes to life. Pivotal to the DYZC is the zendo yoga shala. This is due to the amazing lake, volcano, and mountain views.  As a result, this space is a zendo in that it is a quiet Zen place for seated meditation. It is also a yoga shala for the practice environment it fosters.
However, the zendo yoga shala is also so much more! Free flowing energy will move through this space during Zen dance. In addition, engaging philosophical discussions will accompany the sounds of the breeze and the nearby babbling river. Students will partake in a variety of workshops. This space is the heart of the DYZC.

Foundation

The front stone retaining wall is already built and 43 foundational pillars dug, thanks to the generous $10,000 donation of Kent Putnam. However, at least another $30,000 is needed to complete the zendo shala space, anticipated to accommodate 40 practitioners/students. Learn a bit more about the DYZC’s zendo yoga shala vision for this beautiful land in this video.

How you can support!

Firstly, can you picture yourself practicing here? Secondly, are you interested in making the DYZC your yoga home away from home? We would love your support to making the zendo yoga shala reality! We would also love even more for you to become a part of our DYZC sangha (community)! One way you can do this is by donating through our crowdfunding site!
