Bow Pose – How to do Dhanurasana

Bow Pose – Dhanurasana

Doron breaks down the foundation of bow pose, including a step-by-step demonstration, and techniques for transitioning from dhanurasana to your vinyasa. Dhanurasana is a backbend that is part of Ashtanga second series. In the Doron Yoga method, it is in the block of “on the belly” -poses. This pose involves the chest, belly, quadriceps, hip flexors, and shoulders. Use these tips to maintain a healthy back and sustainable dhanurasana pose.

Coming into the pose

    • Take hold on your feet or if you can, hold your ankles
    • As you lift the chest up on inhale, try to open the chest and lengthen the spine
    • Press the ankles against your hands and lift the legs up
    • Try to keep the knees close to each others
    • Rooting down through the hips
    • Stay in pose for 5 deep ujjayi-breaths and lower down
    • For lighter variation, try Salabhasana, the locust pose
